5 Questions Answered: Your Complete Guide to Dumpster Rentals in East Tennessee

If you're planning a home renovation, cleaning out your garage, or managing a construction project in East Tennessee, renting a dumpster is probably on your to-do list. But if you've never rented one before, you likely have questions.

At Two Gen Vets, we talk to customers every day who want to make sure they're making the right choice. We've compiled the five most common questions we hear about dumpster rentals—and we're answering them all right here.

1. What Size Dumpster Do I Need for My Project?

This is the number one question we get, and for good reason. Nobody wants to pay for a dumpster that's too big, but running out of space halfway through a project is even worse.

At Two Gen Vets, we offer 20-yard and 30-yard roll-off dumpsters. Here's how to choose:

20-Yard Dumpster

A 20-yard dumpster is roughly the size of a large pickup truck bed (about 22 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 4 feet tall). It can hold approximately 20 cubic yards of material—about 10 pickup truck loads.

Best for:

  • Garage, attic, or basement cleanouts

  • Small to medium bathroom or kitchen remodels

  • Roof tear-offs (up to 2,000 square feet)

  • Deck or shed removal

  • Carpet and flooring removal

  • Estate cleanouts

30-Yard Dumpster

A 30-yard dumpster is larger (about 22 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 6 feet tall) and can hold around 30 cubic yards of debris—roughly 15 pickup truck loads.

Best for:

Still not sure? Give us a call at 865-737-5043. We'll ask a few questions about your project and recommend the right size. We'd rather help you get it right the first time than have you deal with the hassle of swapping dumpsters mid-project.

2. How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Dumpster?

Price is always a big concern, and we get it—you want to budget accurately without any surprise fees.

At Two Gen Vets, we believe in transparent, upfront pricing. When we give you a quote, that's what you'll pay. No hidden fees. No surprises.

What's Included in Our Pricing:

  • Delivery to your location in Blount, Knox, or Sevier County

  • Pickup when you're done

  • Disposal fees at licensed facilities

  • Up to a certain weight limit (we'll let you know the limit based on your dumpster size)

  • 10-day rental period (with options to extend)

Factors That Affect Cost:

  • Dumpster size: Larger dumpsters cost more, but they also hold more debris.

  • Type of debris: Heavy materials like concrete, dirt, or roofing shingles may have different pricing due to disposal costs.

  • Location: If you're outside our primary service area, there may be an additional delivery fee.

  • Rental duration: Our standard rental is 10 days, but if you need it longer, we offer flexible extensions.

What Could Cost Extra:

  • Overweight fees: If your load exceeds the weight limit, there may be an additional charge per ton.

  • Prohibited items: Hazardous materials, tires, appliances, and certain electronics cannot go in the dumpster and may require special disposal.

  • Permit fees: If the dumpster needs to go in the street or public right-of-way, you may need a permit from your local municipality (we can help guide you through this).

Want a quote? Call us at 865-737-5043 or email Nick@TwoGenVets.com. We'll give you a clear, honest price based on your specific project—no pressure, no runaround.

3. How Long Can I Keep the Dumpster?

One of the best things about renting from Two Gen Vets? You get 10 days as standard—not the usual 7 days many companies offer.

We know that projects don't always go as planned. Weather delays, busy schedules, or unexpected complications can slow things down. That's why we give you a little extra breathing room from the start.

What If I Need It Longer?

No problem. We offer flexible rental extensions based on your needs. Whether you need an extra few days or a couple of weeks, just give us a call and we'll work with you.

Extensions are available for an additional daily or weekly fee, and we'll let you know the cost upfront so there are no surprises.

What If I Finish Early?

If you fill up the dumpster before your 10 days are up, just give us a call and we'll come pick it up early—at no extra charge. We're all about making things easy for you.

4. What Can and Cannot Go in the Dumpster?

This is a critical question because putting the wrong items in your dumpster can result in extra fees, rejected loads at the landfill, or even safety hazards.

What You CAN Put in the Dumpster:

  • Household junk and furniture

  • Construction debris (wood, drywall, siding, etc.)

  • Roofing materials (shingles, underlayment, flashing)

  • Flooring (carpet, tile, hardwood)

  • Yard waste (branches, leaves, brush)

  • Appliances (refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves)

  • Metal and scrap materials

  • Concrete, brick, and asphalt (may require a separate load depending on quantity)

  • Electronics: TVs, computers, monitors, printers

  • Tires: Car and truck tires

  • Batteries: Car batteries and household batteries

What You CANNOT Put in the Dumpster:

  • Hazardous materials: Paint, chemicals, pesticides, oil, gasoline, propane tanks, or anything flammable or toxic

  • Medical waste: Needles, biohazards, etc.

  • Asbestos: Requires specialized handling and disposal

When in doubt, ask. We'd much rather answer your question upfront than have you deal with a rejected load or extra fees. Call us at 865-737-5043 and we'll let you know if your material is good to go.

5. Will the Dumpster Damage My Driveway or Property?

This is a huge concern for homeowners—and rightfully so. Your driveway is a major investment, and the last thing you want is cracked concrete or gouged asphalt after your project is done.

At Two Gen Vets, we take extra precautions to protect your property. Learn more about our commitment to quality service.

How We Protect Your Driveway:

  • Wood boards: We place sturdy wooden boards under the dumpster to distribute the weight and prevent scratching, cracking, or indentation on your driveway.

  • Careful placement: Our drivers are experienced and take care to position the dumpster exactly where you want it without scraping or dragging.

  • Post-pickup cleanup: After we pick up the dumpster, we sweep up any nails, debris, or leftover mess. We leave your property cleaner than we found it.

Tips to Avoid Damage:

  • Choose a stable surface: Asphalt, concrete, and gravel driveways work best. Grass or soft soil may cause the dumpster to sink.

  • Avoid overloading: An excessively heavy load puts more pressure on your driveway and makes pickup more difficult.

  • Communicate concerns: If you have a brand-new driveway or decorative pavers, let us know. We'll take extra precautions.

Bottom line: We treat your property with the same respect we'd want for our own. If you have concerns, let's talk before delivery so we can plan accordingly.
